The NextLight Mega is one of the three LED grow lights in the NextLight commercial series. The other two are the NextLight Mini and NextLight Veg8. The NextLight Mega emits a full spectrum white-light and is designed for full-cycle, seedling to harvest growth. Let’s check it out!
The Mega is 37" x 37” x 2.5’” and only weighs 23 lbs. It has a wide form factor which means that the fixture emits light from a large area allowing nice even coverage area under the unit.
There are no cooling fans - the unit is passively cooled via the aluminum frame and casing. Overall, there are minimal bells and whistles. The reason why the Mega might be more expensive than some other LEDs is because NextLight focused on high-quality diodes and the best driver on the market. The 100-277 VAC autosensing Mean Well driver is encased on the rear of the unit in order to protect it. Two hanging hooks serve as attachment points for adjustable hangers.
When you purchase the Mega, you get a 120V and 240V cord and plug.
NextLight uses highly-efficient Samsung LM561B diodes which are rated for 100,000 hours at 77°F ambient temperature. Higher temperatures will decrease the lifespan.
There are no secondary lenses on the unit so you get increased efficiency and a wider light spread.
The diodes are placed on slotted LED boards to help heat escape and to allow air flow between the top and bottom of the unit.
The light output of the Mega clocks in at 1400 umol/s. This is the perfect amount of light given the size and coverage area of the fixture.
The fixture does not come with dimming capabilities or spectrum control, however, dimming can be added for an additional cost and as a special order item.
The Mega has a PAR efficacy of 2.15 umol/j and is one of the MOST efficient LED grow lights, or grow light, for that matter, on the market. This means that for every watt of energy consumed, the fixture emits 2.15 micromoles of light. This is very efficient, considering that some LED fixtures have efficiencies of 1.5 umol/j or lower. That's at least 20% more efficient than some of the other “top” LED grow lights on the market.
The NextLight Mega only draws 650 watts and will replace a DE 1000W HPS. That’s 35% less electricity and 35% less heat.
At 650 watts, the mega only emits 2,200 BTUs of heat into the grow environment.
When ran on 120VAC the Mega draws 5.4A, and when ran on 240VAC, it only draws 2.7A.
The Mega utilizes a full white-light spectrum with near UV-A and IR light. The red to rlue to ratio is about 1:1 which is an ideal spectrum for good compact growth and efficient photosynthesis. A higher proportion of blue keeps plants stout, while red drives growth.
There is also a lot of green in the spectrum, which is absorbed by light hungry plants and actually drives photosynthesis more efficiently than red light in strong white light. This is because green light can penetrate further into the leaf than red or blue light. (Additional resource of green light: http://bit.ly/2sqtT2c).
Overall, this spectrum has been proven to drive excellent vegetative growth with excellent flowering results.
A single Mega will cover a 5'x 5' area for flower or 7' x 7' area for veg. Yes, this is actual coverage area, and is only possible because of the large amount of light this unit emits. One Mega is perfect for a 5' x 5' grow tent or you can really kill it in a 4' x 4' grow tent with a Mega.
For the larger-scale growers, several of these fixtures can be setup in a large grow tent or room while providing intense, even coverage across the entire canopy.
In most cases, it is recommended that this fixture is used 12" to 24" above the plants during flower for the best results. 18” above the canopy in most conditions. 24" to 48” is the recommended hanging height for veg. Start high and adjust as the plants acclimate.
NextLight has provided PAR maps of the Mega. The measurements were taken inside and outside of a grow tent at 12” and 18” from the floor.
NextLight products are designed and manufactured in the United States with domestic and imported parts and come with a 5-year FULL manufacturer’s warranty. NextLight has one of the best warranties and customer service in the industry. If your light ever has an issue, they will ship you a replacement fixture within one day before you even send the other one back!
The entire NextLight Commercial Series is UL listed for damp and dry locations. They are also DLC premium listed and qualify for energy rebates with most energy providers.
The MSRP on the Mega is is $1695.00, but is available for $1525.50 at LED Grow Lights Depot.
